The Word This Week (Proverbs, 1 Timothy)

Beloved, as we travel through Proverbs we cannot neglect the wisdom it gives to us on money. Let's learn from God's teaching how we should consider his provisions for the journey as he walks with us. 

Proverbs 10:

¹⁵ The wealth of the rich is their fortified city, but poverty is the ruin of the poor.  ¹⁶ The wages of the righteous bring them life, but the income of the wicked brings them punishment.

Proverbs 11:

⁴ Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

²⁴ There is one who scatters, yet increases more; and there is one who withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty.

Proverbs 13:

¹¹   Dishonest money dwindles away,

but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow.

²¹ Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.

Proverbs 30:

⁸ … give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. ⁹ Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, “Who is the Lord?” Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.

1 Timothy 6:6-10

⁶ But godliness with contentment is great gain. ⁷ For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. ⁸ But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. ⁹ People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Memory Verse:  2 Corinthians 8:9

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”
