The Word this Week (Proverbs)

Beloved in the Lord, 

As we come before the table of the Lord, let's look at the grace of God found in the truths of Proverbs.  We will approach them with a collection of verses based on a theme.  This week we are called to understand and be rescued from displaced anger.

Proverbs 15:

¹ A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

¹⁸ A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel.

Proverbs 16:

³² He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.

Proverbs 19:

¹¹ A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.

¹⁹ A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty; if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.

Proverbs 24:

²⁸ Do not testify against your neighbor without cause, or use your lips to deceive. ²⁹ Do not say, “I’ll do to him as he has done to me; I’ll pay that man back for what he did.”

Proverbs 25:

²¹ If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.

²² In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.

Proverbs 29:

⁸     Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.

¹¹   A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
